AMIA 2005 Spring Congress
Best Practices for ACPOE and Population Management with EHR:
Maximizing the Value of EHR Investments
Ambulatory Care Physician Order Entry (ACPOE) is currently at the forefront of the nation¡¯s attention as a mechanism to improve the quality of health care, prevent errors, and to empower providers to transform their own health care practice.
Building on the energy surrounding this topic, the American Medical Informatics Association convenes the 2005 Spring Congress to demonstrate the best practices in this realm so that individuals and organizations are able to implement and support ACPOE projects in their health care settings.
The meeting will feature two tracks:

Track One:
Successful ACPOE-Practical Tips
This track will focus on important practical tips for CIOs, CMIOs, and EHR Project Managers facing real-world decisions about ambulatory care order entry systems.
Topics will include:

* Understanding the value proposition for ACPOE
* Practical strategies for ambulatory care clinical decision support
* Promises and pitfalls when working with commercially available medication databases
* Use of specific technologies that might enhance EHR adoption
* Preparing an organization for change related to ACPOE when the EHR is in place

Track Two:
EHR-Transforming Ambulatory Practice
This track will focus on using EHR to transform ambulatory practice. Improving clinical-decision making through ACPOE is only the first step to deriving value from the EHR. Additional value can be derived from your EHR investment when you analyze practice data and assess population outcomes.
Topics will include:

* Using EHR to support population management
* Using EHR to support pay-for-performance
* Learning how the EHR can be used in clinical benchmarking and quality analysis
* Understanding how to capture clinical data relevant to population management reports
