49th The European Human Genetics Conference 2016

Where: CCIB, Barcelona, Spain
When: 21 May ~ 24 May, 2016

#KEY DATE

Deadline for submission of Abstracts: 2 February, 2016

The European Human Genetics Conference (now in its 49th year) is a forum for all workers in human and medical genetics to review advances and develop research collaborations.

The conference has become one of the premier events in the field of human genetics with over 3.000 delegates, more than 215 oral presentations, 18 workshops, 8 educational sessions, and over 150 exhibiting companies.

The ESHG conference is where the latest developments in human genetics are discussed, and where professionals from all parts of human genetics meet.

2016 marks another joint congress with the European Meeting on Psychosocial Aspects of Genetics. Join your colleagues for a fabulous meeting in magic Barcelona.

The European Society of Human Genetics promotes research in basic and applied human and medical genetics and facilitates contact between all persons who share these aims.

The last time the ESHG was held in Spain was in 2008 in Barcelona and it is about time to act again as hosts for a new edition of our scientific meeting. It gives me great pleasure, to invite you on behalf of the Spanish Association of Human Genetics (AEGH) to Barcelona for the 2016 Conference from May 21 – 24.

Barcelona is a city that needs not much of an introduction, it is Catalonia¡¯s largest city renowned for its culture and art and offers Mediterranean life-style.

Catalonia, and Barcelona itself have managed to be the source of much of the country¡¯s creativity, including gastronomic culture, art and architecture. But although Barcelona¡¯s cultural figureheads (Picasso, Dali, Gaudi) continue to hold plenty of appeal, the city has more to offer than the creations of these famous residents. From the medieval quarter via the elegant 19th century Eixample to the regenerated waterfront, the city rewards the curious pedestrian, its streets awash with beauties, curiosities and diversions. Indeed, the very urban fabric of Barcelona is deliriously vital: grand with medieval design, playful with impish street art and ablaze with Modernista colours and furbelows.

Barcelona is also notable for being an international hub for science. The city has a very rich ecosystem of prestigious scientific institutes and scientists, many of them working in Human Genetics and Bioinformatics.

The 2016 conference will provide, among other elements, the latest in the field of applied genomics and, hopefully, some real pathways to translate the genomic findings into clinical genetics applications. It will be for sure inspirational and an event not to be missed.

See you in Barcelona in 2016!

Health - Exploring Complexity: An Inter disciplinary Systems Approach
GMDS & DGEpi & IEA-EEF annual meeting & Medical Informatics Europe - MIE 2016

Where: Munich, Germany
When: 28 August - 2 September 2016

#KEY DATE

Submissions of abstracts for presentations and posters: 14 DEC 15 ~ 21 FEB 16

on behalf of the four cooperating societies.
We are happy to host this European event under the joint theme of health as a complex system. This is one conference joining the activities of four scientific disciplines:

Medical Informatics (MIE2016), Medical Biometry, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology and Health Data Management.

It will serve as an important scientific forum for the exchange of new ideas and applications to strengthen health sciences on a national and international level. The analysis of health as a complex system opens new perspectives on a challenging reality: filtering current hypotheses, resolving controversies, and tailoring interventions to the need of the individual within a health system environment.
Why do we meet in Munich? Recently, Munich developed to a centre for Life Sciences. It hosts two large universities, a strong federal research centre on health, a large biotech cluster and German headquarters of international pharmaceutical corporations. We trust that the conference will profit from this stimulating environment.
We meet in the historic building of the Ludwig-Maximilians University in the centre of Munich close to the English Garden and other highlights of our city. And of course, no trip to Munich would be complete without a stop at one of the city¡¯s many ¡°Biergarten¡± to sample some of Bavaria¡¯s traditional fare. Visit our conference and spare a few days extra to discover the beauty of Bavaria, its history, the mountains, the lakes and the castles.

Let us reinforce the dialogue of disciplines in order to advance our understanding of health and to decrease burden of disease. Last, but not least, in 2016 we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the European Federation of Medical Informatics with its MIE conferences. Also, a great opportunity to gather and to celebrate.

Interdisciplinary¡¦

The involved societies have longstanding experience in integrating the disciplines of Medical Informatics, Biometry, Epidemiology and Health Data Management. The collaboration will not only offer a unique opportunity for integration but also strengthen each of the disciplines involved both on a national and international level.

Systems Approach to Health¡¦

In complex systems components are interacting. In our joint endeavors for better health for all we need methods taking interaction into account. This is about interaction of people with their environment, of clinical trials with information systems, of smart homes with epidemiological research, of health data management with economics, of clinical research with systems biology and much more. Because of this complexity we need new models which are able to integrate all these various aspects.

Exploring¡¦

Surely, the conference will not be able to deliver all solutions needed to provide health for all in Europe and the world. But we promise to present a manifold and thus exciting scientific field which is attractive to explore and to learn from.

Complexity¡¦

The complexity of our scientific fields may mislead to just focus on one¡¯s own narrow field of expertise. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to experience complexity as a personal gain.
